Judo Poetry - Judo is like water. (From Mannam Judo)

<Poetry in Judo>

Judo is like water

Reference: Ohelenkamp, K (2006) Black Belt Judo Skills and Techniques. New Holloand Publishers. London.

Judo is like water.

The nature of Judo is often compared with that of water.

Water is soft and follows the path of least resistance, yet is vital of life.

It can be as serene as a lily pond or as wild as the stormy sea.

Water is most serviceable to life when in its liquid state; judo is most effective when your technique is applied in a fluid manner.

Like Judo, water is the humblest of all the elements as it always seeks the low point, but in the end it always overcomes.

Mannam Judo team is promising to be like water too!

Judo Technique - Ground Sparring from Mannam Judo Class

<Judo Techniques>

What is 'Ground Sparring'?

There was some confusions about the difference between free practice and ground sparring. So let me clarify about this technique.

Mannam Judo team at Hanyang University in 3rd of Jan 2013

A kind of sparring is also known as "free practice" in Judo.

Rocked! can not move at all.

Two players attempt to submit or defeat each other the ground techniques, such as a chokehold or joint lock, one submits which we learnt before.

Mannam Judo ladies never lose their smile

In free practice, tapping the mat or one's opponent at least twice is the manner that clearly  indicates the submission.
When this happen, the tapping player has lost and the match is over.

Judo skills - Body drop (빗당겨치기) from mannam judo

Some students told that Korean Judo jargon does not naturally stick to their learning. Instead, they were found Japanese is comfortable to use. As I am a native Korean speaker, I have an passion(?) for making them practise like proper Koreans, but it does not go really well.

Before moving on, here is Korean lesson you need to know.

빗당겨치기
(bit-dang-gu-chi-gi)

Body Drop / Tai Otoshi in Japanese

This technique is one of the original 40 throws and considers of a hand throw.

* Body Drop 's step

1. In order to break your opponent's balance forward, execute it when he is stepping forward.
2. Step in and out with your right leg so that your calf is in front of your opponent's shin.
3. Your heel should be turned outward so that your knee is pointing down.
4. Then pulling forward on your opponent's sleeve and collar, drop you body and they fall over your leg.
