Jacob's Mannam Judo Story

Jacob, I often mentioned his name on our blog.
He is one of our favorite members from Mannam judo club as he never lose his smile and also funny, positive, active and talkative (in good way^^). These days he is keen on doing judo as he found it attractive more than yoga. (I think so ) so let's discover more about him.

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

-> My favorite colour is blue, I love to eat kimchi-tisgae(kimchi stew) sushi, and salad.
I have many heroes. Among athletes I love the soccer players Luis Suarez, Gareth Bale, and Christiano Ronaldo, and the MMA fighter Georges St. Pierre from my home town Montreal.
I love jazz, classical and K-pop.
I love weight lifting, tennis, squash, scuba diving, running and martial arts. My favourite marial art is judo.

2. When did you start joining Mannam judo and how did you meet with us?

->  I can not remember when I started. I guess it was last summer, maybe June.
First, I joined another Mannam group which did volunteer events on the weekend, next I joined the Mannam soccer team, I then heard about the Mannam judo club from the web site.

3. What is your favourite thing about being in Mannam judo club?

-> My favourite thing about the judo club is learning judo.
I love judo, because it is fun to throw people (lol) and exercise.
I also like that the people in the judo class are very friendly.
I think the judo club is a very relaxing and friendly place.
I like joking around with the club members.

4. When was the most happiest moment in Korea?

My happiest moment living in Korea was probably skiing or going to the world Expo in Yosu.
I love travelling around Korea and seeing traditional Korean things.
Actually city life can be boring and stressful, although going to night clubs is also fun.
I also enjoyed the judo tip to Jeonju, where we got to eat really good noodles and walk around a more traditional town.

5. Any difficulties learning judo?

Judo has two confusing aspects.
First, your most effective move is to turn your back on your opponent and throw them over, and this is not a natural feeling, since in most fighting you want to face your opponent.
Second, in wrestling and other fighting arts you want to tense your muscles, but in judo like boxing you want to be loose and suddenly use all your force.
I am still trying to smoothly do the various techniques.
Once I have to actually spar I seem to forget some of the techniques, so application of the skills is also a challenge.

6. What is the one thing that you cherish the most?

I cherish personal relationships and friendship.
I like to have a healthy relationship with friends so that I can enjoy the good things in life.

7. Any word you want to say to Mannam judo team?

I think Mannam judo members should also try their best in everything they do, especially try to keep up your fitness level by running, swimming and doing other cardio activities. A healthy mind needs a healthy body.
